Sandy Sutherland was instrumental in the creation of the Club and its predecessors after moving to the Portobello area in 1972.

He served as Club treasurer, secretary and team manager to the Senior Men’s team throughout much of the Club’s first two decades, working alongside coaches Toni Szifris, Martin Ramage and Danny Costello in that time.

Sandy also coached the junior men to victory over Boroughmuir in a Lothian Milk Cup Final. Sandy is an honorary president of City of Edinburgh Basketball Club and remains very active within the sport in Scotland.

Both of Sandy’s children – Joanna and Malcolm played for the Club. Joanna played in the first Kats team and represented Scotland at all levels before going to play in the US at Lamar University in Texas.
