Just 5 years after the Kats formation, Joanna was part of the team to bring the club its first senior national league title in 1993. The following season Kats also secured a memorable victory over the dominant Livingston (formerly Murray International) team in the 1994 Scottish Cup. With the game in overtime and Kats trailing by 2 with under 10 seconds left in the game, Jo stepped up and hit the game winning 3, and in doing so brought the Kats – and the City of Edinburgh club as the women’s and men’s clubs merged – their first senior Scottish Cup title.
Around the same time Jo achieved her first full Scottish cap and represented Scotland in European qualifying tournaments and small nations tournaments. Joanna was also awarded a scholarship and played Division 1 college basketball at Lamar University in Texas. Upon returning to Scotland and completing her law degree, Jo started working for FIBA whilst playing basketball for local clubs in countries including Spain and Germany. Jo’s career and family have kept her on her toes and following the London 2012 Olympics and her role in organising the basketball and wheelchair basketball tournaments, she has subsequently been working towards the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics and ensuring the running of multiple sports goes to plan. Jo currently lives in Paris with her husband Roger, and their girls, Flora and Esme.
