Becca Simmons (nee Allison)

(Inducted 2024)

Becca started with City of Edinburgh at under 14 level after successful stints in athletics and football. She was a local, Portobello girl and her athleticism immediately shone through to all her coaches and she was quickly asked to play up to under 16 level and then progressed into national teams.

She was part of a Scotland U16 team who won the European Promotions Cup in 2006 and then led her Kool Kats team to an U16 Scottish Cup victory in 2007. Numerous more titles followed as part of U18 and Snr teams with Kool Kats and she was named our Female Player of the Year in the 2008-09 season.

Internationally, Becca was part of the first Scottish Women’s team to participate in the European Division B Championship at U18 level where she put in impressive performances, averaging 10.9 points and 3.1 rebounds a game in 2008. These performances led to her being recruited by Old Dominion University in Virginia, USA to play Division 1 college basketball from 2010-2014 and she was also called up to the GB U20 team who won European Division B Championship in 2010 and then headed to the Division A Championship the following year. She also represented Team GB in China at the World Student Games in 2011.

After graduating from ODU, her basketball career wasn’t finished as she took an assistant coach position at Houston Baptist University in Texas, USA. Her HBU Huskies team enjoyed a record-breaking season in 2021-22, winning their first Southland Conference regular season title and playing their first div 1 post season game in program history, leading to Becca being voted the top D1 assistant in Texas by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
